One of the reasons why marquees remain so popular for events across the country is due to their versatility. Each one is supplied as a blank canvas, allowing you to style them as needed to suit your situation. They are also wonderfully versatile when it comes to where they can be erected. As modern technology and our use of marquees has become more in-depth, techniques have been developed to help them stand on nearly all types of ground. Grass, concrete and even slabs – there are very little obstacles that cannot be overcome when it comes to setting up your marquee in the ideal location. Let’s take a look at some of the surfaces we have erected marquees on throughout the years.
Grass
Possibly the most popular and most recognisable of grounds for a marquee is grass. Spacious gardens, open spaces and even sports grounds are popular locations with their expansive scenery and capability to allow large numbers of guests. Everything from our Clear Span Marquees, our Canvas Marquees through to our Traditional Marquees can be installed on grass, using either ground pinning or footplates. In fact, our Clear Span Marquees are so flexible with their installation process, they can be fitted on all grounds without the risk of damage.
One thing to consider here is the condition of the grass and the ground you’re using. If there has been heavy rainfall or bad weather as of late, you will need to consider sturdy flooring. This can be provided at the last minute if needed.
Tarmac
Marquees use ground pinning to secure themselves to soft ground. However, there are many situations where locations such as this aren’t available. For example, during a school fair or during bad weather where a tarmac or concrete area is preferable. Using weighted ballasts or drilling into the Tarmac (holes are filled when the marquee is removed), a marquee will be just as secure on this type of ground without impacting its visual appeal.
In these environments, flooring generally comes down to personal preference but it can help to accentuate your chosen theme and the event atmosphere.
